Care and feeding of your new tattoo:

Many artists have many different techniques for healing a tattoo.  Here's mine:

Remove wrapping under warm or hot running water after 2 hours (maximum 12)

Wash tattoo with soap and warm water.  You do not need any special soap, use what is best for your body.  Make sure you use your fingertips (NO WASH CLOTHS) to remove any blood from the surface.

Pat tattoo dry with a paper towel, air dry for 10 minutes. On subsequent washings, a bath towel may be used.

Apply a very light coat of  Bacitracin, Neosporin, or A&D ointment, making sure to work it into the tattoo, with very little residue on the surface

Apply ointment as needed (every time your tattoo dries out)

Wash at least 3x a day. 6x won't hurt you. If you don't wash the old ointment off, you could get a nasty reaction.

After five days of ointment, switch to a good skin lotion, use what is best to your body.

Continue washing.

After 5-7 days your tattoo should be healed enough to slow down on the washing, but continue using lotion until your skin is back to normal.

DO NOT expose your fresh tattoo to direct sunlight for any length of time until 30 days is up.

DO NOT scratch your tattoo while it is healing, if it itches slap it.

DO NOT soak your tattoo in any type of water until your skin is unbroken, and shiny.

Your skin should be unbroken and shiny in 5-7 days. If not, you either broke your tattoo, got it in a weird spot, your artist has no clue, or you did not follow the above directions.

DO NOT listen to your friend's advice or a competitor's advice on how to care for your new ink. If you fail to follow your artist's directions, only YOU are to blame if something goes wrong.
